Nose Filler Aftercare: Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Healing Guide
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Aftercare: Nose Filler Healing Guide
Non-surgical rhinoplasty, often called nose filler, is a treatment used to alter the appearance and balance of the nose without surgery.
At Divat Aesthetics, nose filler may be used, where appropriate, to refine the profile, disguise certain bumps or irregularities, improve balance and enhance the appearance of the nasal tip.
Following the correct aftercare is an important part of your treatment. The nose is a delicate treatment area, so it is particularly important to avoid unnecessary pressure and to contact your practitioner promptly if anything does not feel right.
What to expect after nose filler
Immediately after your treatment, you may notice:
- Mild swelling
- Tenderness around the injection sites
- Slight redness
- Minor bruising
- Temporary firmness
- Mild unevenness while swelling settles
These effects are usually temporary.
Bruising and swelling can occur after non-surgical rhinoplasty and are generally self-limiting. The filler will continue to settle over the following days and weeks.
We recommend allowing approximately 2–4 weeks before judging your final result.
The first 24 hours after nose filler
During the first 24 hours, treat the area very gently.
You should:
- Avoid touching, rubbing, pressing or massaging your nose unless specifically instructed by your practitioner.
- Keep the injection sites clean.
- Avoid applying makeup directly over fresh injection points immediately after treatment.
- Avoid strenuous exercise.
- Avoid alcohol shortly after treatment where possible, as it may increase bruising or swelling.
- Avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga and excessive heat.
- Avoid unnecessary pressure on the nose.
- Be careful when washing or cleansing your face.
- Avoid trying to push, mould or reshape the filler yourself.
Clinical guidance also recommends avoiding excessive nasal manipulation and vigorous activity during the initial recovery period.
Do not sleep on your face for 2 weeks
One of our most important pieces of nose filler aftercare is:
Do not sleep on your face or with your nose pressed into your pillow for 2 weeks after treatment.
Where possible, sleep on your back and avoid prolonged pressure against the treated area.
Your filler needs time to settle, and avoiding unnecessary pressure helps protect the treatment area during this period.
If you normally sleep on your front, arranging your pillows so that you are supported on your back can make this easier.
Avoid pressure from glasses
Glasses and sunglasses may place pressure directly across areas where filler has been injected.
For the first 2 weeks, avoid heavy or tight-fitting glasses resting against the treated area where possible.
If you need to wear prescription glasses, speak to your practitioner about your individual treatment area and the best way to minimise pressure.
Be careful with clothing
Take additional care when changing clothes during the first couple of weeks.
Avoid pulling tight tops, jumpers or other clothing forcefully across your face or catching the nose while dressing.
This sounds minor, but accidentally knocking or pressing the nose can be uncomfortable while the area is healing.
Exercise after nose filler
Avoid strenuous exercise during the initial recovery period.
A commonly cited clinical recommendation after non-surgical rhinoplasty is to avoid vigorous activity for approximately 2–3 days.
After this, you can normally return gradually to your usual routine provided your recovery is progressing normally and your practitioner has not advised otherwise.
Facials, massage and other treatments
Avoid treatments that involve significant manipulation or pressure around the nose while your filler is settling.
This includes:
- Facial massage
- Facial treatments involving firm pressure
- Certain laser treatments around the area
- Beauty treatments where your face is pressed firmly into a treatment bed
If you have another cosmetic or dental procedure planned soon after your filler appointment, check with your practitioner first.
Makeup and skincare
Be gentle with your skincare immediately after treatment.
Avoid rubbing or aggressively cleansing the nose.
Once the injection sites have closed and your practitioner has advised that it is appropriate, you can gradually return to your normal skincare and makeup routine.
When applying products, use clean hands and avoid unnecessary pressure.
Swelling after nose filler
Some swelling is normal.
Your nose may temporarily look slightly larger or different immediately after treatment than it will once everything has settled.
Avoid repeatedly pressing or examining the treated area.
Allow the swelling to reduce naturally and give your filler time to settle before assessing your final result.
How long does nose filler take to settle?
Initial swelling generally improves over the first several days.
However, we recommend allowing approximately 2–4 weeks for the result to settle before making a final assessment.
Some clinical guidance suggests follow-up around 1–2 weeks after treatment, when healing and the result can be reviewed.
When should I contact Divat Aesthetics?
Most clients experience only mild temporary symptoms following treatment.
However, nose filler is considered a higher-risk filler area because of the blood vessels supplying the nose and their connections with vessels around the eye.
Vascular complications are rare but require very rapid assessment and treatment.
Contact Divat Aesthetics immediately if you experience:
- Severe or increasing pain
- Pain that feels disproportionate to the treatment
- Skin becoming unusually pale or white
- Grey, blue, purple or mottled skin discolouration
- A spreading change in skin colour
- Significant or rapidly increasing swelling
- Skin that becomes unusually cool
- Blistering
- Increasing redness or heat
- Pus or discharge
- Fever or feeling significantly unwell
Signs of compromised blood flow can include pain, pallor or blanching followed by mottled or dusky discolouration. Early recognition is extremely important.
Do not wait until the next day or your scheduled review if you experience these symptoms. Contact your practitioner urgently.
Vision changes are an emergency
Any visual symptoms following nose filler require immediate emergency medical assessment.
These may include:
- Blurred vision
- Double vision
- Reduced vision
- Partial or complete loss of vision
- New difficulty moving the eye
- Drooping around the eye
- Severe headache associated with visual symptoms
- Nausea or vomiting alongside sudden visual symptoms
Although these complications are very rare, filler-associated visual loss is a recognised serious complication, and the nasal region is one of the higher-risk areas.
If you experience any sudden change in vision, seek emergency medical attention immediately and contact Divat Aesthetics.
Signs of infection
Contact your practitioner if you experience symptoms suggesting an infection, such as:
- Increasing redness
- Increasing heat
- Worsening swelling rather than improvement
- Pus or discharge
- Increasing tenderness
- Fever
- Feeling generally unwell
Infection following filler treatment is uncommon, but it should be professionally assessed rather than treated yourself.
Do not massage your nose yourself
You may notice small areas of firmness or slight irregularity as your filler settles.
Do not attempt to massage, push or reposition the filler yourself.
Your practitioner may occasionally advise a specific form of manipulation if clinically appropriate, but this should only be done when instructed.
How long does non-surgical rhinoplasty last?
Longevity varies depending on the filler used, your anatomy, metabolism and other individual factors.
Published clinical guidance notes that non-surgical rhinoplasty results may last approximately 9–18 months, although individual results vary and maintenance treatment may eventually be needed.
We recommend reviewing your result individually rather than booking additional filler according to a fixed timetable.
When can I have a nose filler top-up?
Do not judge whether you need additional filler immediately after treatment.
Swelling and temporary changes can affect how the nose looks during the early healing period.
Your practitioner can review your result once the filler has settled and determine whether any further treatment is appropriate.
More filler is not automatically better, particularly in an anatomically sensitive area such as the nose.
